The Pedlar Lady of Gushing Cross – iPad
Moving Tales released their first animated “eBook” called “The Pedlar Lady of Gushing Cross”. Really beautiful stuff: every page is filled with beautiful graphics and animations, while a a speaker is narrating the text. In my opinion this a really good an dbeatuiful example how books on the iPad should be:
Dreambot
Dreambot helps you sleep. Choose from a selection of relaxing, neutral soundscapes to mask unwanted sounds in your environment. Continuous audio without melody or lyrics promotes better sleeping conditions. Use the speaker in your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad and set Dreambot to fade out after you’ve fallen asleep. Dreambot also works like magic at the office and other distracting locations—just plug in your headphones and block out the noise.
How to get Facebook Places working outside of the US
Good News for everyone who does not want to wait until Facebook is opening Places for people outside of the US officially! There is a way to get it working today – right now! I jsut created my first Location here in Hamburg, Germany through the Facebook iPhone App.
If you try to use Places, Facebook tells you, that this Feature will be available in your region soon. And here comes the trick. Facebook is not using your Geolocation information from your GPS, but your IP to detect your current country (so, inside or outside of the US).
With VPN service you can easily get an US IP adress. I used Black VPN: feel free to use this promo code of me – WQMFETD (https://www.blackvpn.com/checkout/us/ – if you do, choose the three months option. At the next page you can enter the code and the price will be reduced to 5$ for three months)- and you will get three months for the price of one and I will get an extra free month for me as well. But any other VPN service will do as well.
As I said I used the Facebook iPhone App (make sure you got the latest update. This is necessary, to have the Places features already inside the App).
If you log in at Facebook (I had to logout and login again once to make sure to get a new session with the new IP adress)and go to the Places Tab (“Orte” in german) you will not get the “This service will be available in your region soon” message, but something else like “no friends close to you”. To add a new location press on “Wo bist du” (sorry folks, only have the exact german Button-naming here). Since there are no locations yet, press on “+” to add a new location and you will get a Form where you can enter the name and a description of the new location. Type it in press “hinzufügen” and there it is – your first location.
You will now have a “Location” Icon right to the status field (“Was machst du gerade”) at your profile or News Feed page as well. You can now use this to easily check in to existing locations or add new locations as well.
Note: it will only work while you have your VPN tunnel running (–> means, you have an US IP adress).
And now: enjoy!
EpicWin
* Streamlined and fast to use
* Range of avatars to level-up with
* Destroy your chores in animated battles
* Points & rewards for completing your tasks
* Loot to discover and share
By getting points for your chores it’s easier to actually get things done. We all have good intentions but we need a bit of encouragement here and there. Doing the laundry is an epic feat of stamina so why not get stamina points for it?!
The to-do list is fully-featured and supports repeating tasks, displays reminders for overdue events and allows time-critical events to be assigned to specific days, while more aspirational quests can be set to “someday” so you don’t lose sight of your goals. And each task completed is destroyed by your avatar, so get your Undead Warrior tobeat-up your laundry, or your Treeman to headbutt your overspilling inbox.
The app is supplied with 3 animated avatars (with a further 2 to buy as In-App-Purchases) which grow in characteristics that represent your own life. Will you be a Maiden of Juggled Priorities, or a King of Win? The lifestyle you lead will decide.

MoneyBook
It may look simplistic, but MoneyBook is a powerful personal finance app that offers unique features in an award-winning, easy-to-use user interface
Jamboxx: Turns your iPad into a Boombox
Jamboxx is another app you actually do not need, but that gets you a lot of fun and in this case brings back the good old 80′s with its monster-boomboxes. The app looks like a one of these (though in my opinion it could be a little more “monster”) and lets you play your itunes playlists or create new ones (=Mixtapes. You are really naming a tape. Great feeling!). So in fact it is nothing more than your iPod app, but it has so much more style!
I am missing just a few things: the characteristic “klack” when you open or close the tapedeck, or a “real” fast-forward / rewind button (Jamboxx is only jumping to the next title or offering the fast-forward by keeping the button pressed as known from the iPod). So, some more of these “analog features” we all know from our tapedecks and Boomboxes…
Nevertheless a great idea. Jamboxx is available for free, so if you want to get back the feeling of carrying around a boombox on your shoulder, give it a try.
X-Wing GPS Targeting Computer – Android
Look out Star Wars Fans: finally you can navigate to your destination like the X-Wing pilots to the ventilation shaft on the Death Star! I know, nobody “needs” this app – but it is great stuff! Unfortunately it is not released yet and it seems like we have to wait until Adobe Air for Android is officially released – according to the developer (the App is built with AIR).

Solipskier – iPhone & iPad
Everybody loving Canabalt will love Solipskier as well (so do I): “Solipskier is a fast paced skiing game where you draw the slopes to pick up speed and do jumps. Paint your own cliffs, do tricks and slalom through gates to get huge scores!”
